A four-year-old child was killed while her two siblings and mother were critically injured in a mysterious fire that broke out at Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad on Monday.

The injured are being treated at the Safdarjung Hospital and reported to be in a critical condition.

Akhilesh Singh, 25, and her three children — Tanu, 4, Harshita, 3 and Abhishek, 1 — were found engulfed in flames by neighbours who rushed them to a private nursing home. Later, they were taken to MMG district hospital where Tanu was declared brought dead. The others were later referred to the Safdarjung Hospital .

“The mother has suffered over 50% burns and her two children more than 70% and are in a very critical condition and have a slim chance of survival,” SP JK Shahi told HT.

The police are yet to find the exact reason behind the incident. “It seems that there was probably a leakage in the LPG cylinder in the kitchen, leading to the fire and as the victims were alone they could not escape,” the SP said.

“We tried to speak to the woman but she was not in a state to reply or give any details.

We will investigate to know the exact cause of the incident,” the SP added.
