Blaring music from four speakers in the auto had muffled the Ghaziabad gang rape victim’s cries for help.

After the victim boarded the shared auto at 8pm near Shipra Mall in Indirapuram on Monday, the three accused took advantage of the loud music to drive away with her on the busy NH-24, the FIR said.

According to the victim, the two men sitting behind gagged her and turned on the music. Though against the norm, several shared autos in Ghaziabad have loud music playing in the vehicle, making it difficult for passersby to notice any suspicious activity inside.

The teenager was then taken to an isolated area near Galand village where she was sexually assaulted and robbed of her belongings.

“Around 11.30pm, a girl with an injured eye came running to me. She was crying and told me that she had been raped and needed help,” said Raju, a worker at a dhaba along NH-24.

“As I was trying to console her, a PCR van arrived. The police spoke to the girl for a couple of minutes and took her to the police station,” he added.

An FIR was lodged for rape and robbery against three persons. After initial investigation, the accused were also booked for abduction and voluntarily causing hurt. The police are still looking for one of the accused.
