A 16-year-old girl from Ghaziabad, who had accused her 17-year-old neighbour of abduction, set herself afire at her house under Vijay Nagar police station on Thursday. According to police, the victim sustained around 80-90% burn injuries and succumbed at a Delhi hospital on Friday morning.
On March 27, her family had lodged an FIR against the minor boy from their locality. Police sources said the accused was stated to be a son of a constable, employed at Central Bureau of Investigation. The girl was reportedly going to a nearby cyber café from where she was allegedly picked up the accused and some of his friends.
“Following the FIR, the boy was taken into custody and still under judicial custody. The girl seemed upset over the incident on March 27 and set herself afire on Thursday and could not survive. It is yet to be found out how and why she committed suicide at home. Her family has not forwarded a complaint into Thursday’s incident as yet,” Vijay Nagar station house officer Haridayal Yadav said.
Sources said the family of the accused was allegedly pressuring the victim's family to reach a compromise in the case. However, police sources said the victim and the accused were friendly to each other.
