At least 200 schoolchildren developed bouts of hysteria after several of them claimed seeing ‘ghosts’ flying around in their classroom at a school in East Malaysia, forcing the school to close down.
No classes have taken place in the school for the last four days following the complaints. Children at a co-educational boarding school were convinced that they saw apparitions flying in the classrooms, dormitories and the assembly halls on Sunday.
Though the school was closed for the day, the scene was repeated on Monday too, leading many parents to take their children home. The school authorities have not yet commented on the happenings. But New Straits Times daily quoted one of the parents, identified as Mazlan Ariffin, as saying that his daughter said she had seen a woman wearing white flying around the classroom before closing in on her. “She said she felt a sudden chill just before the ghostly figure reached her and she just screamed,” the father was quoted by the daily as saying.
Another parent said her child became calm after reciting some prayer verse after leaving the school in hysteria. The school has had no classes for the last four days but authorities there are trying to bring the situation back to normal.
