A second-year graduation student was arrested for allegedly attacking the fiancée of her ex-boyfriend with acid last week in Etah, the police said.
The woman, identified as Purani Basti resident Parul Varshney, said she wanted to teach the victim a lesson since, she claims, her boyfriend of two years was ready to marry her till the time she came in his life.
Kotwali Nagar police said Varshney was sent to judicial custody, while the victim is undergoing treatment. “The complaint was lodged by an uncle of the victim,” informed Etah senior superintendent of police, Amit Pathak.
On Saturday, according to police, Varshney waited for the victim at a temple the latter would frequent. With her face covered, she approached her target and threw acid on her that left burn injuries on the victim’s face.
Police sources said Varshney had met the man at the middle of the love triangle while giving tuitions to children in his family. She told cops that she was shaken by his plans to marry someone else, and regretted the attack after the incident.
