Prachi Sawant, a standard tenth student of the Arvind Gandhir High School in Jogeshwari east fell down from the third floor of the school building on Thursday afternoon.

Sawant was coming down from the stairs of the building when she fainted and fell down and landed in the hospital. Now the police are probing whether she fell down due to fainting or she tried to attempt suicide.

According to E Sayeed, senior inspector of Jogeshwari east police station the girl was undergoing mental tension and might have slipped when she fainted.

The staff of the school admitted the 16-year-old Sawant to the nearby hospital before the police could arrive at the spot.

When the police spoke to the girl's mother she informed them that Sawant had been fainting regularly since the past three years when her father died. She told the police that since Sawant's father died she was going through mental tension.

"At present Sawant is not in a position to speak so nothing can be said right away but we are probing the reason of the girl's fall and whether the girl's mother was saying the truth," said Sayeed.

"When the police reached the spot the girl had been already admitted to the hospital so we are not sure whether the girl fell down from the stairs or the building. Since we are investigating the case we have initially registered a case of accident but we are also not ruling out the assumption that the girl might have attempted to commit suicide," added Sayeed.
