Girl mutilated for resisting rape attempt

A 16-year-old dalit girl was seriously injured when three youths chopped off her nose, ear and a part of her hand after she resisted a rape attempt in Bindaki area, a senior officer said on Sunday.

Three men identified as Shivom, Hari Shanker and Pawan forcibly dragged the girl, when she had gone out for some work in the field and tried to rape her late on Saturday, superintendent of police Ram Bharose said.

He said the girl resisted and raised alarm following which the trio chopped off her nose, ear and part of her hand.

The girl was later rushed to the district hospital from where she was referred to Kanpur in a serious condition.

The SP said an FIR has been lodged against the three men and one of them, Hari Shanker, has already been arrested.

Meanwhile, Lucknow special additional DGP Brij Lal said the girl had sustained serious injuries in her head and face.

He said that on the basis of the complaint, an FIR under section 354 (outraging modesty of a woman), 307 (attempt to murder) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) has been lodged.
