A 15-year-old girl was raped, murdered and her body set on fire at Kula village in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district, police said today.
The half burnt body of Rashmita Pradhan, a class nine student, was recovered from the first floor of Kula middle school in the village under Goilkera police station yesterday, the police said.
The girl, who was a resident of Chakradharpur and studied there, had come to her ancestral home in the village for summer vacation and had gone out in the afternoon to visit her friend. When she did not return after some time her family members launched a search for her.
They found the half-burnt body on the first floor of the school building after spoting blood stains in the campus.
The police was informed and the post-mortem was conducted at the sadar hospital at Chaibasa today.
Police have launched investigation to track those behind the crime.
