INTERNET CHATTING landed a gullible girl into serious trouble as her morphed photograph was flashed on an adult site by an MCA student posing as a senior executive of a leading news channel.

Crime branch sleuths arrested the accused, identified as Anoop Bhadauria, on Friday. He has reportedly confessed to having committed the crime. Anoop comes from Unnao. He was a student with the Institute of Management & Research at Meerut Road, Ghaziabad.

The accused used to call the girl on her mobile phone and basic telephone forcing her to continue chatting with him on the Net or he would slander her image by circulating the morphed photographs on different porn sites. Fed up with the harassment, the victim and her father contacted SP Crime Dinesh Chandra Dubey. The girl provided the details, including e-mail address of the accused.

A police team was engaged in tracing the accused.

During investigation, the cops procured the Airtel number (120-4115127) being used for the Internet connection in Ghaziabad and Anoop Bhadauria was the subscriber. The cops picked up Anoop and brought here for interrogation.

Initially, the youth tried to mislead the police but later confessed to his crime.

He revealed that he got the e-mail ID of the girl from his roommate in Ghaziabad and started following her on various sites. He came to know that the girl had completed her studies in mass communication and was looking for a job in news channels.

Anoop succeeded tracing girl’s application for such a job on a site. He immediately sent an e-mail to the girl identifying him as Vikas Batra, a top executive with Star News channel in September 2005. The youth asked the girl for an online interview and she accepted the offer.

Anoop, posing as the channel executive, talked to the girl at length during the forged interview and asked to send her recent photograph. The girl could not gauge his vicious intention and sent the photograph.

Anoop now started chatting the girl regularly. They used to talk on telephone too. During the course of chatting the girl sensed ‘Batra’ was trying to take liberty. She inquired the news channel if any such person was employed there.

As she came to know that nobody with such name was working there she stopped the chatting and replying to the mails sent by Anoop.

Anoop, however, kept sending e-mails and calling her on phone but she never responded.

On April 6 this year, she got a threatening mail from Anoop stating that if she did not contact him immediately he would send her morphed photographs on adult sites.

This message alarmed the girl and she narrated the episode to her father. The latter got his telephone numbers changed immediately and the girl too switched over to a new mail address on another site.

However, no sooner she began using this new site with her profile Anoop tracked this too and even circulated the morphed photograph on this site too.

The girl later contacted the cops and the accused was landed in police net.

Anoop’s father was a Village Development Officer at Safipur, Unnao.
