A BCom second-year student of Faridabad’s Mehta Dayanand Women’s College was run over by a train while she was trying to cross the tracks near the New Town railway station on Friday morning. The girl was apparently listening to music and had a pair of earphones plugged in when the incident took place.

The victim, identified as Neha, was killed at the spot.Railway officials later said that many people present at the spot tried to warn the girl by shouting as the speeding train neared the platform.

“However, since the girl had her earphones plugged in, she could not hear the warnings and was hit by the train,” a senior GRP officer said.

A team of senior railway officials, including the SHO of the government Railway Police, rushed to the spot after the incident. The body was recovered and later sent to BK Hospital for post-mortem.

“The girl was hit by the speeding Toofan Express train coming from Ganganagar in Rajasthan to New Delhi. The incident took place on platform number one”, a GRP officer said.
