Girl's dismembered body found in fridge in China: report

india Updated: Jan 05, 2009 15:49 IST

A four-year-old girl's dismembered body has been found in a fridge in southern China, leading to the arrest of a man who allegedly once said human flesh was "delicious", state media reported.

The migrant worker, who is believed to be mentally ill, was detained after blood was discovered outside his apartment in Guangzhou city, which police traced to him, the Guangzhou Daily reported. It identified him by his nickname, A He.

Police in the city's Panyu District, where the incident occurred declined to speak about the case when contacted by AFP on Monday. Guangzhou Public Security Bureau were not immediately available for comment.

Police found the remains of the child, named Li Lingli, who went missing on Friday morning, inside a small fridge in A He's room, the report said.

The girl's disappearance had prompted a police search of the 50 rental apartments in the compound, the report said. Li's grandmother was reportedly the first to spot the blood outside the apartment door.

A He was described as a recluse, who sometimes wore women's dresses in public, the newspaper said, citing neighbours.

He rarely spoke to people in the area but would sometimes talk to himself when he became excited while watching a communal television out in the lane, the report said, adding that he particularly enjoyed war films.

"(A He) said that human meat was in fact delicious," an unnamed neighbour was quoted as saying, recounting comments A He allegedly made while watching a film depicting people being killed in battle.
