The posh living standards have found a new dimension with leather that looks sophisticated and cool. Gone are the days of animal prints, it is the era of adding to the grandiose of your house. Try the leather flooring or even the leather ceiling for a more flamboyant experience.
Leather on the floor and the ceiling gives that space a rich plush look. “Leather flooring is an exclusive product meant for the niche market that has a rich taste. There are different range of colours, textures and designs. From fancy and bright colours to earthy shades, everything is possible depending on where you would like to display your flooring,” says Sameer Hora of IDUS.
The concept is highly popular internationally. “It is exclusive and expensive. In India these floorings cost very high but a large segment of the people are inclined towards purchasing this product. We have received spectacular response since the time we launched in April. We have also started getting telephonic orders from Mumbai and Chennai,” adds Hora. The flooring costs starts at Rs 650 per square feet plus taxes.
While decorating your house in leather, avoid ornamental, feminine, floral prints. Give your house a clean, masculine look with use of natural materials, lot of texture and combinations in wood, stone and metal. Fur, glass, polished metal, shiny acrylic surfaces can be used to induce the glamour element in the house.
For the subtle effect
The genuine leather flooring has High Density Fiberboard and corkwood underneath to give more strength and stability. But if you place sharp objects on the floor, then this leather flooring will get scratches on it.
If you want to give your bedroom, lobby or drawing room the leather makeover but are wary of the 100 per cent pure variety running wall to wall, there are pure leather rugs and leather-finish tiles that are available in the market. “Area rugs in the same material, provide better ‘dress sense’ to the room when applied over appropriate permanent flooring like hardwood, Italian marble and rough stone flooring,” says Aditya Gupta of In Living.
These are also ceramic tiles in the market that have the finish of leather. “These are long-lasting, require little maintenance and can be used anywhere in the house,” says Poonam Gupta of FCML. In fact they are good to stay inside a swimming pool for life. The leather finish tiles could also be married well with rugged interiors or for bachelor pads. The tiles and rugs give a grand effect in larger settings and open lobbies. In small rooms these can be used for impact walls for a glamour quotient.
The leather-finish tiles last for five to six years with little to no maintenance and are priced at Rs 900 per square feet. For the rug in leather, on the other hand, you may expect to pay anywhere between Rs 100-1000 per square feet.
