Yes, another eatery in Bandra. Though this one, On The Go, is a little away from the chaos, nestled cosily in a Mount Mary bylane. But the location does have its pros and cons. While it makes for a quiet and no-fuss setting, the lack of advertising may be the reason why for the entire duration of our visit, only one other table was occupied.
Relatively small and built diner-style, the interiors are a sleek black and grey, with streaks of neon orange and green lights. The restaurateurs are courteous and their staff, well informed. The menu too is extensive, offering the stable burgers, rolls and pastas along with plenty of Continental, Mexican, Thai options and even a little Indian fare.
We start with some drinks – Green Envy (strawberry and kiwi) and peach and apricot cooler, which is reasonably priced (Rs 50) and refreshing. First up is the OTG special burger (Rs 140). The chicken patty is crisp and slightly tangy, but could do with fewer tomatoes.
To experiment, we order the Cola Lollipops (Rs 150), which the proprietor claims are marinated in “original Coca Cola and spices.” The lollipops come on a bed of rice and are strictly ok, with only a slight cola aftertaste. The accompanying sauce, however, is strong, spicy and virtually inedible, which sends the owner into a tizzy, immediately insisting on replacing the dish.
But after the false start, things only get better for this small eatery. The Chicken Enchilada (Rs 150) arrives next. The dish is great when teamed with sour cream and Mexican-style rice. The Penne Pollo Ala Pesto (Rs 195) also offers a bagful of flavours.
The Lamb Vienna (Rs 245), with two well-seasoned lamb patties, is also superb with a French piquante sauce. The accompanying rice, however, sticks out like a sore thumb.
We finish our meal with the gooey chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream (Rs 125). The cake is silky and creamy without being too heavy.
