Hello, I am planning to visit Gangtok from Hyderabad in December. Please tell me how to get there.
Hi Sreeranga. I would recommend the following:
* If money is not a problem, then book now for cheap flight tickets to Kolkata and then to Bagdogra. It takes a minimum of two hours by flight to Kolkata. From there, it is an hour-long flight to Bagdogra. From Bagdogra, take a prepaid taxi to Gangtok (the journey will take approximately 5-5 1/2 hrs and cost Rs 1,600). You will reach Gangtok by the evening.
* Another option is to reach Kolkata by flight and take the Darjeeling Mail to reach New Jalpaiguri station the following morning. From there, take a taxi to Gangtok (approx Rs 2,500) or come down to Siliguri taxi stand and take a shared taxi to Gangtok (this is cheaper than hiring an individual taxi from Gangtok).
* The third option is to take a flight to Bagdrogra and then take a chopper ride to Gangtok (which will cost approximately Rs 3000).
According to me, the best option is to fly to Bagdogra to save time and then to take a taxi from Bagdogra to Gangtok to enjoy a scenic view of the Teesta river. Opt for a taxi ride to Darjeeling (8 hrs) and then to Gangtok (3 hrs) only if money is a concern, since it is strenuous and time-consuming.
I have planned to spend a weekend at Sakleshpur. I need help in understanding the route to places like Munjerabad Fort, Attihalli waterfalls, Sunset point and Bisle forest. Is it fine to travel by an Indica car? How far are these locations? Can they be reached by car, especially the waterfalls?
From Bangalore to Bisle Ghat, the distance is around 280 km. You have to travel via Magadi, Kunugal, Bellur Cross, Channarayapatna and the Hassan route to reach Sakleshpur. From Sakleshpur, it is about 5 km to Munjerabad Fort on NH-48, near Donigal. From Munjerabad Fort, take a left to get on to the Karavalli Road, which will take you to Karavalli junction. From there, proceed to Hettur Road to reach Atthihalli and then Bisle. Near this place, you will find good home stays. From Bisle, you can visit Kukke-Subrahmanya, which is at a distance of 18 km.
