The discovery of four bodies within a span of 2 days across Panaji has left the Goa police baffled. Three of these bodies were found in partly charred condition leading to speculation that the murders were related.
The first body found on Monday morning at a deserted spot in Merces near Panaji city was charred beyond recognition and covered with a blue plastic sheet. A year ago, a British national was raped near the same location.
One of the corpses found at Verna on Tuesday has been identified as that of 16-year old Evita Rodrigues, a resident and a class XII student of Auxillium Open school of Caranzalem ward in Panaji city.
Rodriguez had left home on Sunday morning for a college in Vasco town with a friend. When Rodriguez did not return, her mother lodged a missing a complaint. Her body too was found covered with a plastic sheet at an isolated spot in Verna village on Monday.
Another partly charred body was found in an island village in Corjuem. The police said, the body has not been identified yet and appeared to be that of a woman aged 20-25 years.
According to police sources, her chappals were placed in the pelvic region and then she was set on fire.
The fourth body was found in a decomposed state near a school in Socorro village, just 8 kms from Panaji, when a group of boys went to play football on the school ground.
The police so far have refused to comment on the murders. Police PRO, SP AV Deshpande said it was premature to link the deaths. The bodies have been sent to the Goa Medical College for post-mortem.
