A top army official has reviewed the security situation in Jammu in the wake of the violent Amarnath land row.
Lt-Gen Vinay Sharma, GOC of the Rising Star Corps, while reviewing the security situation appreciated the quick and effective response of the army to aid the civil administration, a defence spokesman said in Jammu on Wednesday.
Sharma, who arrived in Jammu on Tuesday after several army columns were deployed in Jammu on the request of the civil administration, was briefed of the prevailing situation by Major General D L Chowdhary, GOC of the Tiger Division, he said.
After the briefing, Sharma visited various sensitive places of Jammu, where army's internal security columns were deployed, and interacted with local commanders.
The corps commander emphasised that the army having quickly responded to the call of civil administration should execute its job with utmost professionalism, the spokesman said.
He also appealed to the people of Jammu to maintain peace in the area in the larger national interest and to the benefit all citizens.
