IS SSP GK Goswami trying to save two crime branch sleuths involved in the loot of 4-kg gold from Allahabad-based suppliers?

Both have been declared absconding soon after they were identified by the victims on Wednesday.

Significantly, Goswami placed the cops, identified as Sushil Pachauri and Alok Singh, under suspension on Thursday stating indiscipline as the reason. The policemen did not attend the identity-parade of all policemen of the Special Operation Group (SOG) before the victims conducted on Wednesday.

The victims, Sonu and Tinku, lodged an FIR on Tuesday night that five Maruti van-borne miscreants identifying themselves as SOG sleuths first abducted them from a taxi and later robbed them of gold worth Rs 36 lakh.

In the course of interrogation, SSP Goswami got SOG team members produced before the victims for identity parade. All except Pachauri and Alok attended the process. As the senior cops went through more details, they came to know that it was constables Pachauri and Alok, a sub-inspector (S-I) Santosh Singh and two others who had committed the loot. Santosh, who was earlier posted with the crime branch, was now posted in Bahraich.

The victims identified Pachauri, Alok and Santosh when senior cops showed them the photographs of the trio. The police team probing the case launched a search for the erring cops but they were reported absconding. Senior cops later had no option but to pick up family members of Pachauri and Alok to know the whereabouts of the tainted SOG men.

Despite having a concrete information about involvement of the two policemen in the sensational loot, the SSP suspended them under the charge of indiscipline.

Had it not been policemen the SSP and his subordinates would have applied all ‘traditional tactics’ on family members of accused involved in the case.

Significantly, Pachauri was transferred from elite special task force (STF) a few months back, following serious complaints of his involvement in dubious activities. He, however, ‘managed’ his transfer to Lucknow police and later got himself inducted in SOG team with blessings of some seniors in the Crime branch here.

Sources in crime branch revealed it was Santosh Singh who had escaped with the gold and was untraceable.

The sensational fact about involvement of the policemen as a head constable in the crime branch was aware about the incident. The erring cops had lured this head constable for sharing the booty.
