Begin your day well. If you get up smiling, God will give you more to smile; if you wake up with gratitude, He will give you more to be grateful of. Yet, if you choose to get up in a foul mood and grumbling, naturally He is going to give you a lot more to keep you that way all day through.
How about affection and praise? Offer real praise to the Divine for giving you human form and health and longevity. You may be doing formal puja or meditation. However short a ritual, it carries meaning.
Jotting down a few lines in your diary of your thoughts works as a clogged-mind cleanser, you are energised to face situations of the day as it unfolds; listening to devotional music with eyes closed, letting in the tune and rhythm nourishes the soul.
How about writing a short inspiring note to a different family member or friend and posting it each day, not emailing? And spending a short while with members of the family over morning tea and earn their appreciation. Another friend’s body-care is gentle sandal massage, followed by an enjoyable shower with fragrant ingredients. It is prayer of gratitude for a healthy body at 80 plus.
Then you may like to set a ‘theme’ for each day: today is my ‘charity day’, ‘patience day’, ‘tolerance day’, ‘soul-conscious day’, ‘forgiveness day’, ‘sweet speech day’ etc.
When you set a theme during your wake-up time, you accomplish many more things and in an easier way because your mind gets conditioned to “carry out the orders”.
Each new day is a path of wonder. No day is ever the same, and no day stands still; each one moves through varied territory, awakening new beginnings. We could use the first few moments of early rising to evolve a mood of cheer and camaraderie wishing abundance in nature.
