Google mail delivery delayed due to 'dual network failure'

Search giant Google has said the delay in message delivery on Tuesday was caused by a dual network failure due to which redundant systems stopped working at the same time.

The Gmail team explained that a rare, double-SNAFU was to blame for the delay, Stuff.co.nz reports.

The problem caused at least a brief delay in the delivery of about 29 % of messages across the system, with about 1.5 % of messages being delayed more than two hours, the report added.

It took 12 hours for the Gmail to function perfectly again.
