Govt appoints, transfers 11 joint secy-level officers

As many as 11 joint secretary-level officials were appointed or reshuffled in various ministries in an order issued by the Narendra Modi government late Friday night.

As many as 11 joint secretary-level officials were appointed or reshuffled in various ministries in an order issued by the Narendra Modi government late Friday night.

Ashutosh Jindal, a 1995-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Manipur Tripura cadre, was appointed as joint secretary in the ministry of petroleum and natural gas. He will replace Rajesh Kumar Singh, who will join the department of agriculture and cooperation as joint secretary.

In another crucial appointment, 1989-batch Maharshtra cadre IAS officer Rajesh Agarwal was appointed as joint secretary, financial services in the ministry of finance in place of Anurag Jain.

Jain, another 1989-batch IAS official -- of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, was earlier inducted into the PMO as joint secretary.

Rajiv Sadanandan, joint secretary in the ministry of labour and employment, was shifted to the ministry of rural development. He will replace Vijaya Srivastav, who was earlier elevated as additional secretary. Sadanandan is a 1985-batch IAS officer of Kerala cadre.

Arun Kumar Mehta, Jammu and Kashmir cadre IAS officer of the 1988 batch, was appointed as joint secretary in the ministry of environment, forest and climate change to fill in the vacancy left by Maninder Singh, who was shifted to the department of health research in the same capacity.

Anurag Srivastav, joint secretary in the ministry of information and broadcasting, was shifted as joint secretary in the ministry of Ayush in place of Raj Pratap Singh.

Singh, a 1983-batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, was prematurely repatriated to his parent cadre after he failed to get empanelled as additional secretary.

Srivastav is also a UP cadre IAS, belonging to the 1992 batch.

Bihar's Mihir Kumar Singh was appointed as joint secretary, ministry of information and broadcasting. Singh is a 1993 batch IAS officer.

Another Maharashtra cadre officer, Dr Bipin Bihari Mallick, was made joint secretary in the labour and employment ministry.

Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, an IAS officer of 1990-batch Uttarakhand cadre, was appointed as joint secretary, department of commerce, to fill the vacancy of additional secretary Depinder Singh Dhesi.

Dhesi was repatriated to his parent cadre in Haryana where the BJP government made him chief secretary. Dhesi was looking after establishment and export-related matters.

Sameer Sharma, a 1985-batch IAS of Andhra Pradesh cadre, was moved from ministry of housing and urban poverty alleviation to the ministry of urban development as joint secretary.

Sharma will replace CK Khetan, a 1987-batch officer of Chhattisgarh cadre, who was shifted to the department of disability affairs, which is considered a side posting.

Indian postal service officer Aindri Anurag was appointed as joint secretary, social justice and empowerment. He will take over from Sanjeev Kumar, whose extended tenure will end on February 28. Anurag will take over subsequently.
