A national convention of central and state government employees, defence workers and teachers on Wednesday criticised the "anti-employee" policies of the Centre and endorsed the decision of the sponsoring committee of Trade Unions to go on general strike on December 14.

The employees took strong exception to the move to privatise the pension scheme, which is considered to be the best form of social security available to employees, and demanded scrapping of the measure, a release issued on behalf of the employees' said.

It warned the Government of "serious consequences" if it took up the "dangerous" Bill.

As many as 226 delegates representing All India State Government Employees Federation, Confederation of Central Government Employees, All India Defence Employees College and University Teachers Organisation participated in the convention.

The convention also decided to hold a massive march to Parliament on August 18 and a country-wide strike as soon as the UPA Government takes up the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill in the Parliament.

The Sponsoring Committee of Trade Unions had on Tuesday charged the UPA Government with heaping unbearable burden on the people while "favouring the rich" and demanded firm and swift measures to check price rise and strengthen PDS.

It demanded immediate introduction of a comprehensive legislation for the unorganised sector workers, enactment of an urban employment guarantee bill, end to privatisation and disinvestments of profit-making and strategic PSUs, stopping FDI in telecom and ensuring right to strike for workers, including the Government employees.
