Govt giving protection to communal elements

india Updated: Aug 15, 2006 18:19 IST

STATE BHARATIYA Janata Party on Monday accused the Samajwadi Party-led State Government of vitiating communal harmony by giving protection to communal elements.

State BJP spokesman Hridaya Narain Dixit in a statement claimed that those responsible for slaughtering Hindus in Mau were once again active and efforts were being made by vested interests to engineer riots in Mau.

He said no Hindu was involved in creating trouble in a Mau masjid but an attempt was made by some miscreants to disturb peace in the district for political gains.

“Communal forces as well as the State Government don’t want Hindus to peacefully celebrate their festivals like Janmasthami, and that’s why tension is being created in Mau,” Dixit said.

“The police apathy in dealing strictly with trouble-makers during the riots has encouraged communal forces to do something unpleasant once again,” he said adding, “The Government must initiate action against miscreants.”
