Govt imposes penalties to mitigate corruption in BSNL, MTNL

The government till July 2011 has imposed a total of 30 penalties on officials of telecom PSUs BSNL and MTNL to check corruption, Parliament was informed today.

The government till July 2011 has imposed a total of 30 penalties on officials of telecom PSUs BSNL and MTNL to check corruption, Parliament was informed on Wednesday.

"To mitigate the corruption by the officials of BSNL and MTNL, the complaints received are promptly investigated and based on the report of such investigations and gravity of offences made by the accused officials, necessary penalties as per rules are imposed," minister of state for communications and IT Milind Deora informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Up to July 2011, the government has levy 28 penalties to BSNL staff and two penalties to MTNL staff.

"The Sam Pitroda Committee has not made any reference to corruption and mismanagement in its report," Deora added.
