The meeting of various RWAs from Gurgaon and the Haryana chief minister is finally bearing some fruit.
The RWAs, under the umbrella of apex resident body Joint Action Forum of Residents' Association (Jafra), had met Bhupinder Singh Hooda in June on the issue of issuance of house tax assessment notices by the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG).
Senior officials of the local bodies department have indicated that a specially constituted body of taxation department and others was seriously deliberating for introducing certain changes in the form of house tax calculations and other possible exemptions.
The officials also indicated that those who have already deposited house tax based on the assessment notices would be benefited with, if at all any subsidy was announced later, and their amount would be adjusted against those benefits.
The MCG has earmarked about 2.75 lakh properties of all types, including the self-occupied houses, for the purpose of issuing house tax assessment notices.
Till date, about one lakh notices have been issued in Gurgaon and MCG projects to collect about Rs 350 crore in the form of house tax.
According to a senior official of local bodies department, the Haryana Taxation Committee had been deliberating to bring in some changes in the calculation method.
“During the one-hour meeting, the resident's association had apprised the Haryana chief minister of the concern of lakhs of people,” said Col. (Retd.) Ratan Singh, the chairman of Jafra, said.
