THE STATE Government has ordered for special audit of some of the departments including the Works Department of Lucknow University (LU). The special audit would be carried out for various financial transactions from the year 2000 to 2004. The government would constitute a special audit committee for the purpose.

Highly placed sources in LU finance department confirmed that the state government had issued an order to this effect. There are complaints of financial embezzlement against a few departments and the Works Department is one of them for which special audit would be carried out.

Sources close to LU administration confirmed that Vice-Chancellor RP Singh had sent a strong-worded letter to senior officials of finance and account section for various irregularities in the finance department as well as in the account office.

Reports said that the V-C had issued similar letters to these officials in the past also.

It is learnt that the V-C in his letter has specifically said that no payments be made to any individual against photocopy vouchers or bills. He has instructed that all payments be made only against original bills and vouchers. The V-C is said to have directed officials to record all bills in the master register.

There are reports that V-C has also ordered for maintenance of separate account for admission, examinations, research, etc and directed the officials to extend full cooperation to the special audit team.
