THE STATE Government is scouting for innovative ideas to make its proposed special economic zones (SEZs) look more appealing to the private investors.
An interesting aspect of the government plan is that it has sought assistance not only from the entrepreneurs but also from the general public for the first time on devising ways and means to make the industrial climate more congenial for the development of SEZs in the State.
As a result, the newly formulated ‘UP Special Economic Zones Policy’ (UPSEZ New Policy-2006) is now open for a ‘review’ for developing world class SEZs across the State.
The suggestions being invited from the general public and the entrepreneurs could range from describing a product profile suitable for manufacturing in a particular SEZ to policy interventions where suitable amendments could be made in the new policy for making SEZs viable in future, official sources told Hindustan Times.
The State Government has invited suggestions through the website of Udyog Bandhu (www.udyogbandhu.org) after reviewing the contents of the new SEZ policy available on the website.
A general consensus on the product profile suitable for a particular SEZ or ways to attract more investment in the SEZs is expected to be considered by the officials at the highest level for their review and its implementation after a number of deliberations with experts specializing in development of SEZs in the country, sources said.
At present, the State Government is developing an SEZ in Bhadohi besides having plans to establish SEZs in Kanpur and Jhansi. Moreover, the State Government was already in the process of developing ‘integrated areas’ with world-class infrastructure facilities through establishment of SEZs across the State, sources added.
