Govt to regularise 6,318 PTA teachers

The state government will regularise the teachers recruited by the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) on contract after 18 months and also induct PTA teachers removed by the previous BJP government.

This was disclosed by chief minister Virbhadra Singh in a reply to the joint question raised by BJP legislators Jai Ram Thakur (Seraj) and Randhir Sharma (Naina Devi) and Congress legislator (Dalhousie) Asha Kumari in the assembly on Tuesday.

Singh said currently there were 6,318 teachers and the state government in a policy had decided to take them under the ambit of the state government in contractual capacity.

Minimising the contractual period, PTA teachers having experience would be regularised after 18 months.

Replying to a supplementary question of Randhir Sharma, the chief minister acceded that the reservation roster was ignored during recruitment under PTA.

Responding to a supplementary question by Jairam inquiring whether PTA teachers would be removed for not qualifying the Right to Education (RTE) criteria, the chief minister assured that none of the PTA teachers would be removed as they were fully qualified that included school lecturers, trained graduate, classical and vernacular (C and V) teachers and college lecturers.

In another joint question raised by BJP legislators Mahender Singh (Dharmpur), Satpal Singh Satti (Una) Virender Kanwar (Kutlehad )and Ravinder Singh (Dehra), food and civil supply minister GS Bali said nearly 16,31,804 ration cardholders in the state were getting ration under the public distribution system (PDS).

On delay in sugar quota since June to the ration cardholders, Bali said a tender had been invited for the purchase of sugar to cater to the demand. The minister said a committee was constituted comprising managing director, civil supplies, director, food and civil supply, deputy controller, food and civil supply, and registrar, cooperative society, as member for completion of the tender process.

In response to a supplementary question of Ravinder Ravi and Mahender Singh, the minister said the sugar quota per person was 612 gm and the total quota for the state required was 47,000 quintal. He disclosed that 22,000 quintals of sugar was on way to be delivered to the state depot for distribution, adding that people deprived of sugar in recent months would also be compensated.
