PEOPLE’S DEMOCRATIC Front (PDF) chairman Maulana Kalbe Jawad on Sunday said that shaken by Muslim mobilisation, the State Government had belatedly launched welfare measures for the community. The Shia cleric said the government had been giving largess to Muslims under the pressure of the PDF.

Addressing newspersons here, Jawad also announced that a movement would be launched for restoration four mosques and a multi-crore graveyard in the posh Gomti Nagar area. He said the community members would start courting arrest every Monday from July 10 for a month.

He said the government had attached the Masjid Kiswarjehan and the Masjid Jafar Hussain and the Lucknow commissioner had said in his report that prayers were not offered in these mosques. While the lawn of the Masjid-e-Sughra had been affected because of construction of a bridge, the government had been threatening the Imam of Masjid-e-Ghausia Qari Jarar Hussain with demolition of the courtyard for beautification of the Gomti. Jawad, however, challenged the government to deploy police for demolition of the courtyard. He said instead of solving the problem, the government had complicated it.
