Railway minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad on Tuesday, held former prime minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader HD Deve Gowda responsible for the BJP storming to power in Karnataka.
"The people punished Deve Gowda for serving his own interests. He deserved it," said Prasad, who will deposit his passport at a CBI court on Tuesday.
The BJP had benefited from Deve Gowda's "doings", he said and did not agree that price rise was the cause for BJP's thumping win.
"No, not price rise, which is a media-hype. The BJP gained seats from the JD(S) while the Congress increased its voting percentage," Prasad said.
"Deve Gowda ne satyanash kiya (Deve Gowda messed up the Karnataka political scenario)," Prasad alleged ahead of the BJP staking claim to form government in Karnataka, the first time for the saffron party to form its own government down south.
