JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda on Thursday wrote to Congress President Sonia Gandhi seeking her support for a Rajya Sabha nomination for his party's Secretary General Danish Ali from Karnataka.
The biennial elections for the Upper House are due for next month and there are four seats from Karnataka which are up for grabs.
Out of these, BJP is expected to nominate its own candidates for two seats, while Congress is expected to bag one seat on its own. For the remaining seat, Congress needs support from JD(S) and party sources said that Gowda has sought Gandhi's cooperation for nominating Ali.
A senior party leader said that JD(S) had during the previous two RS elections, supported Congress' sitting MPs -- Anil Lad and B K Hariprasad.
While Lad's tenure is due to end in 2014, Hariprasad would be retiring on June 30 this year.
JD(S) sources said that Gowda is seeking Congress' support for Hariprasad's seat in favour of Ali.
