My mother’s aunt, 90, now in Toronto, is famous as ‘Jeeto Bhua’ in the village of Butala. Everyone looks forward to meet her as meetings with her are full of pleasure that gives positive energy. I keep asking my mother about her arrival, though I know she stays six months in Canada and six months in Punjab.
Her answers are always positive and good. Whatever happens to her, she faces everything with courage, calmness and patience.
When she is in our village home, then visitors to our home never end as people know that by meeting her they will achieve lot of positive energy. I have noticed how people discuss their sorrows and the way she replies to their full satisfaction.
On her last visit, I asked her whether she loved Canada or India? I assumed her answer would be, “Of course, Canada is better as there are better facilities, people with high thinking…” But she had a different answer: “I love every country, be it any place as it is not about place; it’s all about ‘you’. How you take things in life is more important than anything else. The way we think matters a lot. If we are positive, the world around will look good to us. If we think negative, nothing will be liked by us wherever we are. ”
Another positive character is my cousin’s grandmother, (86) who still has a young mind and a brave heart. She loves to watch the latest television shows, movies and songs. She always compares life with an ice cream and often inspires her family that one should enjoy it before it melts. She often says that “struggles in life define life at its best and it is struggling and tensions that make life more interesting….”
If we are positive, we can make our life special and great. After all, what we think and how we take things in life matters a lot. As someone said, “On this earth, there is nothing great but man; in man there is nothing great but his mind”.
