Closely monitoring the developments in politically unstable Jharkhand, the top brass of banned CPI(Maoists) has warned Independent legislators that they were a target for their “open greed and lust for pelf and power to the exclusion of the poor”.
“Jharkhand’s Independent legislators are on top of our death list,” said Rakesh, secretary of his outfit’s Jharkhand-West Bengal-Orissa Border Area Regional Committee.
“Shifting their bases to cities and virtually cutting themselves off from the rural folks who have voted them to power, the Independents are spending much of their time in power games. They are least bothered about the sufferings of the poor and downtrodden. We wish to try them in the people’s courts and punish them in full public view,” was what he added in pamphlets strewn all around in Singhbhum district.
The Maoist threats issued from an undisclosed location along the Jharkhand-West Bengal border in Ghatsila of East Singhbhum comes close on the heels of the murder of JMM district working committee member Krishna Mahato in Galudih on August 22.
Maoists have killed at least six top JMM leaders in the area in the past year and a half, including Jamshedpur MP Sunil Mahato.
