A grenade like object was found at the airport on tuesday morning, sending security men into a tizzy. The object, resembling a grenade, was found in the airport car park area by the driver of a vehicle, who alerted the Airport Manager, official sources said.
Personnel of the Bomb Disposal Squad of the CISF and Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) cordoned off the area before removing the suspicious object to a safer zone.
Sniffer dogs were pressed into service by the CISF and security was tightened at the airport. The incident comes in the wake of a recent BCAS alert to all airports following an anonymous call that flights from India to Saudi Arabia could be target of terror attacks.
