Eight months after the murder of Neeraj Grover, the Mumbai sessions court on Tuesday framed charges against Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and her fiancé former Naval officer Emile Jerome.
Maria has said in her confessional statement that Jerome killed 25-year-old Grover, creative head at TV production house Synergy Adlabs, after reaching her flat and she was injured in an attempt to stop Jerome.
Though, she has also tried to be a victim rather than an accused saying Jerome had raped her twice after the incident, she will also have to face the charge of murder and conspiracy, which attracts maximum of death penalty, if proved in court of law.
Both pleaded not guilty when Additional Sessions Judge CA Jadhav explained charges to them. The court said they were charged with conspiring to kill the creative head at Synergy Adlabs, killing him and disposing of the body with an intention to destroy evidence.
As framing of charges — the first step in trial — is over, Public Prosecutor Ramnath Kini will present a list of witnesses in the next hearing on February 3. The prosecution has lined up 96 witnesses. As per the prosecution case, Mathew and Maria, allegedly killed Grover on May 7 last year in Maria’s flat in Solitaire Apartments at Malad. The duo allegedly cut the victim’s body into pieces and destroyed the evidence by burning it at near Manor.
