British television star Jade Goody has applied for a visa to visit India. People close to Goody say she wants to say sorry for hurting Indian sentiments in the reality television show Celebrity Big Brother.
On Tuesday, the 25-year-old — whom viewers last week voted out of the show for her racial tirades against co-contestant Shilpa Shetty — visited the Indian High Commission in London to apply for a visa.
Her well-wishers see the proposed trip as a goodwill mission. A source close to Goody said she was keen to visit India and say sorry personally. "She won’t take a TV crew with her, she wants to do this on her own," the source said.
In a television chat show, Goody said she had been "invited" to India. "I’m thinking of going over there because I’ve been invited," she told Five TV host Matthew Wright. She said some "high-up people" had invited her to India but it was not immediately known who they were.
Goody’s visit to India could also be a damage-control exercise to salvage her professional and personal life. Her sponsors have deserted her and she herself has expressed fears about being isolated.
