The city police on Friday afternoon raided the premises of the Asaram Bapu ashram and arrested seven of his disciples for last week's attack on journalists covering the bandh called in protest against the mysterious deaths of two boys of its residential school.
The CID (Crime) branch, which has been conducting the investigation into the episode, had identified the Asaram Bapu followers from clippings of the video footage of the attack recorded by the television channels and also from the newspaper photographs.
About a dozen journalists and cameramen of television channels were injured in the attack by Asaram Bapu followers last week.
The trouble started earlier this month with the mysterious deaths of two boys of the Asaram Bapu's residential school following which people had observed a spontaneous bandh as the parents had suspected foul play at the ashram.
A judicial probe into the mysterious deaths of the two boys has been ordered as the agitation by local people against Asaram Bapu was snowballing into a major controversy.
