Four gunmen, posing as officials of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch, robbed a retired bank official’s house of gold and cash at Balram Nagar in Loni of Ghaziabad on Friday, police said.
According to family members, around six armed men barged into their house on the pretext of conducting a search operation and took the family members hostage at gunpoint.
During the incident, Arihant Jain (65), a retired bank official, his daughter-in-law and two children were present. The gunmen took them hostage and took away gold and cash, police said.
Family members estimated the loss at over Rs 10 lakh.
Jain’s son Pankaj runs an auto parts shop in Karol Bagh area of Delhi.
“Family members allowed them to enter as they said they were from the investigating agency,” said Sandeep Jain.
“They took the family members hostage at gunpoint and after robbing them, locked them inside a room. In between, they also called up their accomplices waiting outside. The men were not masked. Even the maid and her daughter was locked up.”
Eyewitnesses said that these men fled on three motorbikes parked outside Jain’s house.
“They entered the house posing as Crime Branch officials and were four in number. We are estimating the value of robbed valuables and cash and investigations are on,” SP (City) Rahul Yadvendu said.
