The Millennium City, despite being in proximity to an international airport, having many high-rise buildings and shopping complexes, lacks a full-proof mechanism to prevent a disaster or check its impact.

The district administration has laid a disaster management plan six months ago.

Yet, a mock drill conducted to test the efficiency of the plan was described as total failure by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

While various government departments are unaware of the implementation of any such plan, several of them are yet to carry out a training programme for disaster control.

Whether it is health department or fire department, most officials do not even know that who would take action and what is their roles and responsibility in case of an emergency as per the disaster management plan.

After a ceremonial mock drill was conducted early this year, the NDMA wrote a letter to the state chief secretary and said that the drill carried at Hero Honda chowk was an absolute failure. But, the administration never bothered to conduct any fresh drill.
