Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra tonight invited Omar Abdullah, who was elected leader of the National Conference Legislature Party earlier in the day, to form the next government in the state.

This followed after the National Conference chief met the Governor in the evening and formally staked claim to form the government.

JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz, accompanied by Choudhry Mohammed Aslam, Leader of the Congress Legislature Party, also called on the Governor and pledged support of their party MLAs to Omar, a Raj Bhavan spokesman said.

Omar will take oath as Chief Minister on Monday at the head of a National Conference-Congress coalition government amid indications that it will be a six-member ministry sans a Deputy Chief Minister from the Congress.
