Six members of the Adivasi Peoples' Army (APA) were detained on Wednesday in connection with the railway track blast which derailed some bogies of the Guwahati-Puri Express in Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district.

Two members of the group, which had claimed responsibility for the IED triggered blast, were picked up from a tea garden in Baksa district and four others from Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar district for interrogation, police said.

The APA cadre picked up from Menoka Tea Estate along the Indo-Bhutan border in Baksa have been identified as Mathews Marandi and Anthony Orang but the police refused to divulge the names of those detained in Gossaigaon.

The APA had claimed responsibility for the blast on July 10 which resulted in the injury of 93 people and derailment of seven bogies of the train. The police had initially suspected the hand of NDFB (anti-talk faction) but the group later denied its involvement in the blast.
