National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Mamta Sharma on Wednesday met chief minister Tarun Gogoi and handed over a 17-point recommendation for rehabilitating the molested girl and punishing the guilty. She also met the girl.

Sharma also sought from the media, particularly electronic, sensitive treatment of stories and urged them to act responsibly through self-regulation.

"I had a fruitful meeting with the chief minister who accepted all the recommendations," the NCW chairperson said after meeting Gogoi. She had arrived from New Delhi in the morning.

The recommendations included the following:

--The culprits should be booked and punished as per law

--Case should be tried by a fast-track court for speedy and time-bound justice

--Psychological counselling to the victim and suitable rehabilitation including government job as per prevalent policy

--Action against those who watched the (molestation) incident at the spot

--Action against those protecting and hiding the culprits

--Strict punishment of police personnel responsible for the crime

--Unbiased and impartial investigation into the incident

--Monitoring of bars and installation of CCTVs outside them

--Special night patrol units comprising male and female officers and constables

--Proper shelter for victims of such crime if their families are not ready to protect them

Meanwhile, an official spokesperson said the government is likely to rehabilitate the molested girl with a job.
