The National Investigative Agency (NIA) in support of CRPF intelligence unit sleuths and Special Operation Unit (SOU) of Assam police arrested Islamic terror outfit Jaamat-ul- Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB)’s Assam wing chief Sujina Begum from Inter State Bus Terminus ( ISBT) at Garchuk areas, police said on Friday.
Sujina (30) is wife of JMB operative Sahanur Alom , who was one of the 12 prime accused in the Burdwan blasts in West Bengal. NIA after its first phase of probe on the Burdwan blast announced Rs. 5 lakh bounty for anyone giving information leading to Sahanur Alom’s arrest. Sahanur hails from Barpeta district of Assam.
“Sujina Begum was arrested by SOU of Assam police from ISBT. NIA wanted her in connection with Burdwan blast. She was involved with Jihadi actitities and her main role was to impart Jihadi training to girls in state’s riverine areas”, said deputy inspector general AJ Baruah, spokesman of Assam police.
With arrest of Sujina Begun, she became the first woman Jihadi to be arrested in Assam. She is being interrogated by NIA, SOU of Assam police and CRPF intelligences at undisclosed location. Police said that with Sujina Begum as chief, JMB was working to open up its women wing in Assam.
Police said that Sujina came to the city on Thursday night along with two other ladies and her minor son and daughter. Based on NIA and CRPF’s inputs, SOU nabbed her from the ISBT.
“Sujina was planning to go to some lower Assam district”, added the Assam police spokesman. At the time of her arrest she was wearing Burqah .
After the Burdwan blast, Sahanur Alom alias ‘Doctor’ went underground with his wife. NIA after founding concrete evidence of Sahanur Alom’s full involvement with JMB raided his house at Chotala village in Barpeta district. From his house, an NIA team seized some materials, including some illegal documents, Arabian coins, bank passbooks and some money collection receipt books of different Madrassa in West Bengal.
His brother Jakaria Ali was also arrested for working with JMB’s Sleeper Cell in Assam. NIA team also examined three bank accounts ( two in SBI and one in Union Bank of India) of Sahanur in Barpeta district.
Sahanur and his wife both were obtained Jihadi training from Simulia Madrassa in Burdwan district of West Bengal. NIA’s probe of Burdwan blast exposed that the Madrassa was hub of JMB’s operation in the country.
Both Sahanur and his wife Sujina were instrumental sending funds to West Bengal Madrassa where other members of the JMB were being trained and also preparing bombs. For NIA, Sahanur is most wanted as his arrest would unearth how money is being pushed from Bangladesh and some Gulf countries to the country for JMB’s operation in the country.
