Revolt in road ministry fizzles out in 48 hours
The "revolt of sorts" in the road ministry last week when 15 officials - which included DG (Roads), two NHAI members and 12 chief engineers - resigned en-masse to protest the over interference of Planning Commission advisor Gajendra Haldea might have started with a bang. But in less than 48 hours, it ended in a whim-per. Grapevine has it that the rebellion crumbled following differences in the ranks. A couple of official citing "perso-nal reason" withdrew their resignation leaving the others in a lurch. They were left with no option but to follow suit. Sources said that a little admonition from the minister-ial bosses was enough to force the officials to fall in line.
Women & Child Development ministry to get new secretary
There has bee a change of guard at the top in the Women and Child Development (WCD) ministry. WCD secretary DK Sikri, a 1975 batch IAS officer, recently moved out of the ministry. Sources said that he is likely to join the department of justice as its new secretary. The incumbent in the justice department, Neela Ganga-dharan, another 1975 batch officer, is likely to take charge of the secretary's post now.
Post of special secretary in law ministry revived
The post of special secretary has been revived in the law ministry after two decades. NK Nampoothiry, who was serving as an additional secretary in the legislative affairs department, has been to the post of special secretary in the legal affairs department. The post, which existed in early 1990s, was scrapped after all the three wings of the ministry had separate secretaries. The post has been revived to strengthen the department.
