A member of PoK-based al Umar Mujahideen militant group was on Wednesday arrested from the city, police said.

Fiyaz Ahmad (23), who hails from Muzaffarabad in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) was arrested from Bajaria Modh area in the old city, SSP Ghaziabad Deepak Ratan told PTI.

Ahmad is suspected to having links with a local terror network in the Ghaziabad area where he was staying after his arrival from Karachi on August 11, Ratan said.

It is also suspected that he was planning sabotages in the national capital and other regions close to Ghaziabad.

Sleuths from the Intelligence Bureau have arrived here to interrogate Ahmad, he said.

Police are also probing whether Ahmad has links with Imran, a local militant arrested in Udaipur last month for his suspected role in the recent bomb attacks in Ahmedabad and Bangalore, and another terrorist Abdul Karim (Toonda), who is at large.
