The Haryana government has decided to observe 2012 as "Year of Youth" in order to properly harness young talent.
"Keeping this in view and with a view to celebrating youth, my government has declared the year 2012 as the Year of Youth," Governor Jagan Nath Pahadia said, delivering his address on the opening day of the budget session of the state assembly here on Thursday.
Pahadia said that the government will pay a focused attention to all such activities as to benefit young girls and boys so that they are able to realise their true potential.
"All necessary steps will be taken to expand health facilities, quality education, skills development, employment and livelihood opportunities to cater to the needs and aspirations of the youth," the governor said.
He said the government considers promotion of sports as an important strategy for the holistic development of the youth and as the key to the inclusive and affirmative governance.
The governor in his 28-page address detailed developmental activities in various spheres, including agriculture, irrigation, power, rural development and education and said the government "rededicates itself to the goal of achieving a fast and more inclusive growth and equitable development".
He also reiterated the stand on river waters by saying "my government is resolute in its commitment to secure Haryana's legitimate share of water". PTI
