About 250 allegedly illegal bungalows and resorts in Thane’s Yeoor Hills may face the axe, the Bombay High Court indicated on Wednesday.
A division bench of Justices JN Patel and VK Tahilramani has directed the Thane municipal commissioner and Collector to furnish a list of all the corporators — former and current — and government officials who own bungalows at Yeoor Hills.
The allegedly illegal bungalows came under the high court scanner following a petition filed by four tribals asking that the land occupied by non-tribals be returned to the original occupants.
The plea claims that about 250 bungalows have come up on the hills, in clear violation of the law that says tribal land cannot be purchased.
The court has asked both the Thane municipal commissioner and collector to conduct a survey of the constructions within a week.
The court has also asked the officials to file affidavits stating who owns these constructions and whether they had proper sanctions.
