THE MP High Court today served notices on the Union and State governments, the Chief Engineer Rewa Division of NH-7 and the Collector Rewa while hearing a PIL seeking direction for probe into poor condition of a patch of National Highway Number-7 crossing the Nagar Panchayat Hanumana in Rewa district.
Also, the PIL sought direction to punish the erring officials responsible for negligence in their duty in the upkeep the road, saying it is the responsibility of the government under Article 21 of the Constitution of India to provide good roads to the citizens.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice A K Patnaik and Justice R S Jha heard the PIL filed by Shyam Dhar Dwivedi alleging the patch of road crossing Hanumana Nagar Panchayat area has not been repaired for the last 12 years.
The petitioner said several representations were given to the authorities concerned but no action had been taken yet. The PIL said the people were developing lung infections due to dust raised by the movement of vehicles.
