THE INDORE division bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court has ordered State Local Fund and Audit Director to get the accounts of Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) audited through a skillful auditor in view of the allegations made in the public interest litigation filed against Public Health Engineering Department Executive Engineer Satyanarayan Tiwari.
The bench of Justice S K Kulshreshth and Justice S K Seth added that the litigant would be free to take appropriate action if not satisfied with the audit result.
The PIL filed by Indo Overseas Chamber of Commerce & Industries chief executive Jatan Kumar Garg has charged Tiwari with withdrawing large sums from the IMC account in his name without accounting for the same. Tiwari is looking after execution of Narmada project Phase III launched by IMC.
Placing documentary evidence before the court, the Corporation appended copies of its cashbooks to show that the amounts withdrawn by Tiwari had been duly accounted for. However, the litigant filed a rejoinder and placed a few transactions before the court to show that certain amounts Tiwari withdrew had not been shown in cashbooks or other documents of IMC.
