MP HIGH Court at Jabalpur on Wednesday directed the State government to maintain status quo on the construction of cricket stadium over popularly known Campion ground in E-2 sector of Arera Colony in Bhopal.

The court’s interim directive came during the hearing of a PIL filed by the E-2 Rahawasi Sudhar Samiti Bhopal and 8 others claiming that the diversion of a playground into a stadium is against provisions of MP Nagar Tatha Gram Nivesh Adhiniyam 1973.

The petitioners felt that a stadium would cause air and sound pollution besides aggravating the disorganised traffic system in the colony.

The PIL seeks direction to regulate parking arrangements in the colony following opening of commercial complexes, financial and medical institutions in residential houses.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice AK Patnaik and Justice KK Lahoti served notices on the State government, the Town and Country Planning director, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation and others on the PIL.
