A day after Hindustan Times reported that Dr RK Karwasara, who was suspended from the Pt BD Sharma University of Health Sciences here for "gross misconduct", delayed 400 surgeries, university authorities have decided to take action on the basis of a chief vigilance office (CVO) investigation report.
Sources said the doctor would be chargesheeted anytime soon. "We have received the investigation report and are serious on the issue," university vice-chancellor SS Sangwan said. He, however, refused to give a time frame to act on the report.
The issue had been put on the back burner for the past one month, sources said, adding that after the HT report, the authorities have stirred into action.
The university's CVO had, on May 7, submitted the report but the V-C office sat on it for more than a month.
Dr Karwasara was suspended on April 30, after pressure mounted on the university to take action against him. A complainant, Navin Sihag, of Sirsa district had alleged that Dr Karwasara demanded bribe to operate on his 60-year-old father, who later died for the want of treatment. Sihag, however, withdrew his complaint after a panel of doctors investigating into the matter asked him to present evidence.
Another complainant, Rajinder Singh, who is with Border Security Force (BSF) in Hisar, had alleged that Dr Karwasara threatened him to withdrawing the complaint against him.
